[어린 왕자] 는 가장 많이 번역된 프랑스 문학의 명작이다.
이 책은 당시 프랑스의 유명한 동화이며 "어른들을 위한 동화"라고도 불렸다. 물론 어린 독자들에게도 많은 사랑을 받았다
[어린 왕자]는 이상주의적 시각을 가진 아이의 시점으로 인간 세계를 바라본다. 저자는 사하라 사막에 추락해 머나먼 별에서 온 어린 왕자를 만나게 된다. 어린 왕자는 무심코 많은 것을 털어놓게 되고 그는 점차 어린 왕자의 경험에 대해 알게 된다. 어린 왕자는 자신이 살던 별에서 거만한 장미꽃과 사이가 틀어진 후 이곳저곳을 돌아다니며 각기 다른 별에서 각기 다른 식물들을 만나게 된다. 그의 사상을 이야기 속 여우의 말을 빌려 표현하자면 다음과 같다; "사물의 진정한 모습은 눈으로는 볼 수 없다"
